FT. MYERS, Fla. – The Neumann University baseball team split a pair of games with Ohio Northern University on Sunday as part of its spring break trip.
Ohio Northern won the first game 6-1. Neumann then won game two 4-2 in 10 innings.
In the first game, the Knights scored first as Matt Sheneman hit an RBI triple to knock in Buddy Elgin. Ohio Northern answered with three runs in the top of the second. The Polar Bears added another run in the fourth and two more in the sixth for a 6-1 game.
Ted Fletcher started the game and went 3.1 innings. He allowed four runs, three earned, on eight hits. He struck out three. Adam Holowienka pitched two innings. Adrian LaRowe pitched the final 1.2 innings.
In game two, Neumann scored two runs in the top of the 10th to win the game in extra innings. Elgin singled to score Kevin Case for a 3-2 lead. Alex DiGenova then singled in Sheneman for an insurance run.
Kye Williams scored the game's first run in the sixth inning on a single by Case. Ohio Northern took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run.
Sheneman scored the tying run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by DiGenova.
Zach Youngberg picked up his first collegiate win. He went three innings and had two pick offs. Jalen Burks started the game and went 5.2 innings. He allowed two runs on three hits and struck out four.
Neumann (2-3) will face Heidelberg University for a single game tomorrow at 10:00 AM.
