IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team split a doubleheader with Immaculata University on Sunday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. The Mighty Macs won game one 12-5 and the Knights won game two 6-3.
In the first game, Neumann put four runs on the board in the top of the first. Matt Sheneman knocked in Cam Stimpson for the first run. Trevor Wilkins followed with an RBI single to score Kevin Case. Sheneman and Wilkins would come around and score as well.
Immaculata scored two runs in the bottom of the first and then took advantage of some errors en route to scoring four in the second and another in the third for a 7-4 lead after three innings.
Kyle Leone knocked in Drew Snow in the sixth inning for the Knights only other run of the game. The Mighty Macs plated five runs in the home half of the sixth to seal the win.
Zach Youngberg started the game and took the loss, going 1.2 innings and allowing six runs, two earned, on just two hits. Ted Fletcher went 4.0 innings and allowed six runs, four earned, on 10 hits and struck out three. Jeremy Hutchison went a third of an inning.
In game two, the Knights scored two runs in the third and four in the fifth en route to the 6-3 win. Buddy Elgin had three hits and Wilkins knocked in three runs.
Wilkins hit a two-RBI single in the third to break a scoreless game. Immaculata answered with one run in the bottom half of the third.
In the fifth, the first four Knights reached base. Sheneman and Wilkins each had RBI singles and came around to score.
Jalen Burks started the game and went 3.2 innings. He allowed one run on four hits and struck out three. Kevin Giffin picked up the win, going a third of an inning. Lorenzo Williams, Jarad Carney and Alex Summers also pitch in the game. Summer struck out three batters in two innings and got the save.
Neumann (5-8, 2-1 CSAC) travels to Susquehanna on Tuesday afternoon for non-conference action. First pitch is slated for 4:00 PM.
