Softball Topples Giants in Doubleheader

LA PLUME, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team took two games at Keystone College on Thursday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. Game scores were 13-4 in six innings and 8-4.

In game one, the Knights took advantage of Giants error and Danielle Grayson hit a two-run homerun to score two unearned runs. Neumann batted around in the second inning. With two outs, the Knights strung together six straight hits. Allie White hit a two-run double. Grayson then hit her second long ball of the day, this time a three-run shot.

In the sixth inning, the Knights plated four unearned runs. Lauren Wilkie hit her first collegiate homerun, a three-run shot. Wilkie also picked up the win. She allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out four.

In game two, Neumann again took advantage of some Keystone errors. Grayson put the Knights on the board with a two-run single in the third inning. Becky Guinto followed by hitting her first collegiate homerun, a two-run shot, for a 4-0 Neumann lead.

Guinto knocked in another unearned run in the fifth inning. She knocked in her fourth run of the game in the sixth inning as the Knights scored three insurance runs.

Haley Broomell picked up her first conference win, going 5.1 innings. She allowed four runs on six hits and struck out four. Melissa Rozumalski went the final 1.2 innings and did not allow a hit.

Neumann (15-5, 11-1 CSAC) will host Marywood on Friday afternoon in CSAC action. The first pitch of game one is slated for 3:00 PM.
