Softball Splits Doubleheader with Pacers

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team split a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader with Marywood University on Friday evening. The Pacers won game one 7-5. The Knights came back to win game two 11-3 in six innings.

In game one, the Pacers got their bats going first. Marywood scored its first run in the second inning, unearned. The Pacers then added two in the third and four in the sixth for a 7-0 lead.

The Knights got their bats going in the seventh inning. Allie White led off the inning with single. Marisa Giordano followed with a single. Becca Reinhart then knocked in White with a single. Danielle Grayson then slammed a three-run homerun. Becky Guinto doubled and came around to score on a ground out by Lauren Wilkie for the fifth run. However, the hole was too big and the Knights fell 7-5.


Kristin Beaty went 7.0 innings in the circle. She allowed seven runs, six earned on 12 hits and struck out three.

In game two, the Knights bats started out on fire and they would score at last one run in each inning. White and Girodano opened the home half of the first inning with back-to-back singles and would both come around to score.

In the second inning, Katie Halter drew a walk with two outs and scored on a White triple for a 3-1 game.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, and the Knights leading 8-3, Becky Guinto opened the inning with a single. Megan Williams then hit an RBI triple and came round to score on a ground out. With two outs, Halter hit a double and came around to score on an RBI single by White to end the game.

White finished the game with two singles, a double and a triple along with three RBI and two runs scored. Wilkie went 6.0 innings for the win. She allowed three runs, one earned, on seven hits and struck out two.

Neumann (16-6, 12-2 CSAC) will host Baptist Bible tomorrow its fourth straight day if CSAC doubleheader action. First pitch of game one is slated for 1:00 PM.
