ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team took a pair of Colonial State Athletic Conference (CSAC) games against Cedar Crest College on Thursday afternoon. Game scores were 11-0 and 10-0, both in five innings.
In game one, the Knight scored eight runs in the first inning. Jamie Scannella had a two-run single in the inning. Allie White hit a two-run double as well. Neumann added two more runs in the second and another in the fourth inning en route to the 11-0 win.
Lauren Wilkie started the game and went 2.0 innings. She allowed one hit and struck out four. Haley Broomell went 2.0 innings and picked up the win. She did not allow a hit and struck out four. Melissa Rozumalski pitched the fifth inning and allowed a hit and struck out two.
In game two, Neumann again scored eight runs in the first inning. Seven of the first eight batters reached base. Kristin Beaty knocked a two-run homerun in the inning. Rozumalski had a two-run single in the fourth inning for the 10-0 final.
Beaty started the game and went 4-0 innings. She allowed one hit and struck out five as she faced the minimum amount of batters. Allyson Parris pitched the fifth inning. The Falcons didn't go as quietly for Parris as they did for Beaty, but Parris for a key strike out and the last batter hit into a fielders choice with the bases loaded to preserve the shutout.
Neumann (20-6, 16-2 CSAC) will host Rosemont next Tuesday in a CSAC doubleheader. Game one is slated to get underway at 3:00 PM.
