ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team was shutout by Widener University, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
The Knights were held to just three hits on the afternoon. Kevin Case, Matt Sheneman and Cam Stimpson each had a hit.
Jeremy Hutchison started the game and went 5.2 innings. He allowed four runs, one earned, on four hits. He struck out eight. Zach Youngberg completed the sixth inning. Ted Fletcher, Jalen Burks and Alex Summers each pitched an inning.
Sheneman had the first hit of the game, a double, in the second inning. AJ Koscelansky then hit into a fielders choice and Sheneman was out at third. Kye Williams was hit by a pitch to put two men on base. The next two batters struck out and flew out to center to end the scoring chance.
The Pride got on the board in the top of the third by capitalizing on two Knights errors to take a 2-0 lead.
In the fifth, Stimpson led off with a single, stole second and third, but was stranded at third.
Widener scored three runs in the sixth, two coming after an error, and then the Pride hit a two-run shot in the seventh for their seven runs.
Neumann could not get the bats going, even though runners reached base in the ninth inning, and fell 7-0.
Neumann (13-14) will host Moravian on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action. First-pitch is slated for 4:00 PM at Bruder Field.
