ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team dropped two games to Gwynedd Mercy University on Wednesday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. Game scores were 7-1 and 11-6.
In the first game, the Knights were held to four hits. Kevin Case knocked in Cam Stimpson for the lone run of the game in the sixth inning. The Griffins opened the scoring with two runs in the third inning.
Ted Fletcher started the game and went 3.0 innings. He allowed two runs on four hits. Ed Hild went 2.1 innings and allowed two runs on three hits. Adrian LaRowe and Brad Lee completed the game for the Knights.
In game two, Neumann put three runs on the board in the third inning, including a two-run single by Case. Gwynedd Mercy answered with four runs in the bottom of the second. The Knights tied the game at four as Buddy Elgin scored on a ground out by Trevor Wilkins. The Griffins plated two runs in the bottom half of the inning for a 6-4 lead after three inning.
The Knights strung together two hits and two walks to plate two runs in the fourth inning to tie the game back up at six. The Griffins then started to take advantage of some miscues and plated two unearned run in the fourth and two runs, one unearned, in the fifth. Gwynedd Mercy added an insurance run in the sixth.
Adam Holowienka started the game and went 2+ innings. He allowed six runs on six hits. Lorenzo Williams went one inning. Scott Dougherty took the loss, going 0.2 innings and allowing two unearned runs. Jerome Cevetello, Alex Summers and Kevin Giffin rounded out the hurlers.
Neumann (5-10, 2-3 CSAC) and Gwynedd Mercy (11-7, 5-0 CSAC) will meet again tomorrow afternoon for the final game of the three game series.
