IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team split a doubleheader at Immaculata University on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC).
The Knights won the first game 9-1. The Mighty Macs took game two 6-5.
In game one, Becca Reinhart and Becky Guinto each had three hits. Reinhart's single in the third inning was the 200th of her career. Allie White scored three runs. Lauren Wilkie went the distance in the circle. In 7.0 innings, she allowed one run on two hits and struck out four.
Neumann scored two runs in the first inning back-to-back RBI's by Danielle Grayson and Guinto.
In the sixth inning, Reinhart hit a two-run double to give the Knights some breathing room, 6-1. Neumann then added three more runs in the seventh en route to the 9-1 win.
In game two, the Knights got off to a quick start, scoring four runs in the second inning. White hit a bases-clearing triple and then came around to score on a single by Marisa Giordano.
Immaculata plated three runs in the fourth inning for a 4-3 game.
The game was decided in the sixth inning. Kristin Beaty hit a double and Carla D'Ángelo came around to score as a pinch runner on a Katie Halter double. The Knights left the bases loaded with a 5-3 score.
The Mighty Macs strung together some hits and walks to score three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-5 lead. The Knights went down in order in the top of the seventh and Immaculata came away with the win.
Beaty started the game and went 5.0+ innings. She allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits and struck out three. Allyson Parris took the loss, going 0.1 innings, and allowing one run on one hit. Melissa Rozumalski pitched 0.2 innings.
Neumann finishes the regular season 23-9 overall and 19-3 in the CSAC. The Knights will be the No. 2 seed in the CSAC postseason and will travel to the campus of Marywood University for tournament play next weekend.
