ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University volleyball team opened up with two loses to nationally ranked Eastern University (3-0) and Muhlenberg College (3-1), in the Knights Invitational Friday afternoon and evening.
The Knights lost 25-14 in the first set to the Eagles but then played much tighter second and third sets, falling 25-21, 25-22.
Kelsey D'Imperio had 13 kills while Kat Wolf handed out 30 assists. Julia Malseed tallied 19 digs and Anna Waltz notched 18.
In the second match, Muhlenberg took the first two sets (25-16, 25-17), before the Knights clawed their way back to win the third match (25-18). Ultimately the Knights conceded the fourth game (25-18). D'Imperio had 12 kills for the Knights. Wolf tallied 29 assists. Malseed notched 16 digs and Danielle Kwapisz added 10.
"We took on two fantastic opponents and I will pleased with how we competed," said first year coach Alicia MacGlaughlin. "We are a team that's learning, but I must say that I love our desire to compete."
The Knights will compete in two non-conference matches on Saturday, September 13 with University of Scranton at 11:00 AM and Haverford College at 3:00 PM.
