Men's Basketball Wins Back and Forth Battle at Gwynedd Mercy

GWYNEDD MERCY, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team won a back and forth battle at Gwynedd Mercy University 72-71 on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

DeShawn Lowman led all scorers with 25 points. The sophomore went 12-for-15 from the line. Andrew Moye notched a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Kevin Green added 14 points.

The game was tightly played for all 40 minutes and featured 19 lead changes and 12 tied scores. Neither team was able to build a lead larger than five.

The first half had five knotted scores and 10 lead changes. The Griffins held a five point lead with 11 seconds before the end of the first half when a layup by Lowman with two seconds on the clock to make the score 31-28 heading into the locker room.

Not much changed in the second half, which had seven tied scores and nine lead changes. The final tied score, 69-69, came with 55 second left on the clock. The Griffins went 1-for-2 from the line for a one point lead with 29 seconds left. Gwynedd Mercy immediately took a timeout. Neumann got the ball and took a timeout with 19 seconds remaining. The Knights were looking for the last shot and Green hit a three-pointer with four seconds remaining.

However, the game was not over. The Knights received a technical foul on the bench. The Griffins made 1-of-2 from the line and had the ball, down by one. Coming out of a timeout, Lamon Church intercepted the Griffins inbound pass, but then turned it over with 0.5 seconds left. Gwynedd Mercy could not get a buzzer beater shot and Neumann hung on for the 72-71 win.

Neumann (8-6, 5-2 CSAC) wraps up the five game road trip 3-2 and will be back home for the first time since December 17 when it hosts Cairn on Monday evening. The conference game gets underway at 7:00 PM.
