Box Score ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's basketball team picked up a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) win on Monday evening against Cairn University, 62-61.
DeShawn Lowman led the Knights with 25 points, while Denzel Yard and Lamon Church both scored double-digits with 10 points. The Knights as a whole had 22 points in the paint and a solid 19 points off turnovers.
Each team had little runs in the first half. Two free throws by Andrew Moye put the Knights up 10-4 five minutes into the half. Cairn pulled to within one, 16-15, midway through the half and remained within 10 points throughout the first 20 minutes. Neumann held a 29-19 lead at the half.Â
Neumann kept on charging to start, taking a 16 point lead, 37-21, five minutes into the second half. With 10:27 remaining, Cairn started its run for a comeback. A 14-2 run by the Highlanders shrunk the Knights lead to just four, 41-37. Two free throws by Lowman but the Knights up six, but a Cairn three pointer turned the lead to within three with 8:27 on the clock.
The Knights took back a 10 point lead with 5:51 remaining, but the Highlanders were not going quietly. A Cairn three-pointer with 1:37 remaining cut the Neumann lead to just three, 60-57. A Knights turnover and two Highlander free throws cut the lead to one with under a minute in regulation. Lowman connected on two to get the lead back to three, 62-59, with 41 ticks left. A Cairn jumper with 30 seconds remaining made it a one point game. The Highlanders fouled and the Knights missed the front end of a 1-and-1 and Cairn got the rebound and called timeout. With 16 seconds and the shot clock off, the Highlanders dribbled up the court, looking for the last shot and the win. Cairn could not get a shot off and Lowman stole the ball as the buzzer sounded and the Knights held on for the win.
Neumann (9-6, 6-2 CSAC) heads to Immaculata University on Wednesday for conference action beginning at 6:30PM.
