ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team doubled up Utica College 4-2 in ECAC West action on Saturday afternoon on senior day.

Before the game, the Knights recognized their three seniors: Lindsey Spatola, Ashley Reimer and Amanda Simpson.

Sarah Thon had a goal and an assist in the game. Shanelle Doucette handed out two assists. Justina Mayr made 33 saves in net for the win.

Utica opened the scoring 3:35 into the game for an early lead. Spatola celebrated her senior day by scoring her first goal of the season to tie the game at the 13:03 mark. Jaclyn King and Simpson drew the assists. The teams went into the first intermission with the knotted score.

Neumann had an exciting second period and scored three goals, two on the power play. Thon scored her goal on a 5-on-3 advantage at the 10:18 mark to give the Knights a 2-1 lead. Doucette and Megan Russelo tallied the assists. Four minutes later, Lauren Cusack netted the eventual game-winner. The power play goal was assisted by Doucette and Thon. Ashley Langdon, from Casey Kilduff, gave Neumann a three goal advantage heading into the third period.

The Pioneers netted a goal 1:24 into the third period, but that was as close as they would get and the Knights came away with the 4-2 win.

Neumann went 2-for-7 on the power play while holding Utica 0-for-6. The Pioneers edged the Knights 35-21 in shots.

Neumann (4-14-2, 2-11-1 ECAC West) heads on the road next weekend for a pair of conference games against SUNY Potsdam. Action gets underway at 7:00 PM on Friday and 2:00 PM on Saturday.
