RYE, N.Y. - The Neumann University men's hockey team dropped a back and forth 5-4 overtime game at Manhattanville College on Saturday evening in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West action.
Jory Mullin tallied a hat trick and added an assist to lead the Knights. Mike Davis had a goal and three assists. Shayne Morrissey handed out two assists.
The first period was a back and forth battle with the teams tied 2-2 after the first 20 minutes. The Knights got on the board quickly as Davis scored 59 seconds into the game. Steve Low and Mullin had the assists. The Valiants took advantage of a power play midway through the period. Mullin scored his first goal of the game at the 15:35 mark off assists from Davis and Morrissey. Manhattanville answered 35 seconds later to knot the game again.
The Valiants scored early in the second period to take a 3-2 lead just 32 seconds in. The Knights answered with two goals to take a 4-3 lead. Mullin tied the game at the 8:17 mark off assists from Davis and Doug Rose. The junior then completed his hat trick with 20 left in the second on the power play on assists from Davis and Morrissey.
As time was winding down, Manhattanville pulled its goalie and tied the game with 58 seconds left in regulation. In overtime, The Valiants scored the game-winner with nine seconds left on the clock.
Mitch Wiebe saw his first collegiate action in net and made 39 saves. The Valiants outshot the Knights 45-40.
Neumann (3-2, 1-2 ECAC West) will host Utica College next Friday evening beginning at 7:00 PM in conference action.
