GLASSBORO, N.J. – The Neumann University men's basketball team picked up its win of the season, 77-72, at Rowan University on Tuesday evening.
Kevin Green led five Knights in double-digits with 18 points, hitting four three-pointers.
DeShawn Lowman added 17 points, with four baskets from downtown, and 10 rebounds.
Denzel Yard had 15 points and went 10-for-10 from the free throw line.
James Butler notched 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Tyaire Hudson rounded out the double-figures with 10 points.
The game featured nine knotted scores and remained tight throughout regulation as neither team took a lead bigger than six.
The Knights opened the game by scoring the first five points. Hudson put Neumann on the board and Yard followed with a three-pointer. A three-pointer by Lowman gave the Knights an early 10-4 lead. The Profs went on a 6-0 run to tie the game at 10.
Rowan continued its run to take a 21-16 lead midway through the half. Neumann answered with a 10-0 run of its own for a 26-21 advantage. The teams would go back and forth to end the first half and Roan took a slim 42-40 lead into the locker room.
The second half was much like the first with the teams trading runs and no one taking control of the game. Rowan took a six point advantage, 67-61, with 5:22 left in regulation. Yard connected on two free throws with 5:01 on the clock. Neumann got to within two on a Butler lay-up.
After the Profs went 1-for-2 from the line, Butler went 2-for-2 for a one point game, 68-67. The Knights took the lead on a jumper by Hudson, followed by a tip-in, for a 71-68 lead. Four free-throws by Yard in the final minute sealed the 77-72 win for the Knights.
Neumann (1-1) will head to Stockton University this weekend for a tournament. The Knights will face host Stockton on Friday evening at 8:00 PM.
