ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team played to a 2-2 overtime draw against William Smith College on Friday afternoon in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West action.
The teams played an even game all around. Both teams scored twice in the second period, with one each team coming on a power play. The Knights edged the Herons in shots, 38-36.
Justina Mayr made 34 saves in net.
In the first period, both teams went 0-3 on the power play. In the second period, the Herons scored first, 2:23 into the period on the power play.
Donna Williams answered for the Knights three minutes later with a power play goal of her own.
Kelly Fox had the assist to tie the game at one.
Just over a minute later,
Grace Klienbach put Neumann up 2-1 off an assist from
Bek Lucas. William Smith tied the game at two with 4:17 left in the second on a flutter shot.
Each team had power play attempts in the third period, but no one was able to light the lamp again. Mayr made 16 of her saves in the third while the Heron's goalie made 13. The extra five minutes was not able to determine a winner and the teams ended in the 2-2 tie.
Neumann (0-6-1, 0-4-1 ECAC West) and William Smith (2-3-2, 0-3-2 ECAC West) will meet again tomorrow afternoon beginning at 2:00 PM.
