GALLOWAY, N.J. – The Neumann University men's basketball team edged Wesley College 73-71 on Saturday afternoon at the Stockton Tip-Off Tournament.
DeShawn Lowman had 21 points to lead the Knights and was named to the All-Tournament team. The junior had three baskets from downtown.
James Butler had a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Kevin Green connected on three three-pointers en route to 13 points and
Denzel Yard added 12 points.
Lowman opened the game with a three-pointer. The Knights built up a 14-6 lead with 13:13 left in the first half. The Wolverines then went on a 12-6 run to cut the lead to two, 20-18. The teams would be tied at 24 with 4:24 left in the half. Wesley scored eight of the next 10 points for a 32-26 advantage and would take a 35-31 lead into halftime.
The Knights opened the second half with a 10-2 run to take back the lead, 41-37. The teams would battle back and forth over the half, with the biggest lead just six, 63-57, by Neumann with 6:13 left on the clock. Wesley would get as close as two a few times as time starting to wind down.
Yard put Neumann up 71-65 with 21 seconds left. Wesley then hit a free throw and a jumper for get back to three. Green hit 2-of-2 from the line with 10 seconds on the clock to go back up by five. The Wolverines connected on a three-pointer with five seconds left, but time ran out and the Knights held on the for 73-71 win.
Neumann (2-2) will open conference play on Tuesday when it travels to Rosemont. Tip-off is slated 8:00 PM.
