ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team fell at Rosemont College 96-92 in the opening game of Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Tuesday evening.
DeShawn Lowman led four Knights in double-digits with 36 points.
James Butler added 19 points.
Tyaire Hudson netted 13 points while
Denzel Yard added 10.
The game was a battle throughout the entire 40 minutes. The Knights held a slim lead for most of the first half. The biggest lead was 31-25 with 5:32 on the clock and a bucket by Butler. Neumann had a 42-39 lead at the half.
The second half started much like the first, with Neumann holding a small advantage. With the Knights leading 66-61 with 8:25 left, the Ravens went on a 10-2 run to take a 71-68 lead. Two free throws by Yard with 3:20 in regulation tied the game at 76.
Rosemont then went on another 10-2 run for an 86-78 score. Neumann had a few chances to get back in the game down the stretch and the final minute was a busy one. A three-pointer by Lowman with 40 seconds left got the Knights to within five. After two free throws by the Ravens, Lowman answered again with a three-pointer for a four point score. Again, two free throws by Rosemont and
Terrell Blackwell was able to connect on a basket plus one for a three point game with 17 seconds left.
The teams traded baskets under 15 seconds. The Ravens sealed the win with two more free throws for a four point lead with five tickets left on the clock.
Neumann (2-3, 0-1 CSAC) will participate in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Cabrini College on Saturday. The Knights will face the University of Valley Forge in the first game beginning at 12:00 PM.
