Knights Prevail in OT in Back and Forth Battle

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team came away with a 7-6 overtime win to open Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West action at Elmira College on Friday evening.

Shane Topf had a goal and two assists. Jon Low added a goal and an assist. Shayne Morrissey handed out three assists and Casey Rogers added two.

The game was a back and forth battle from the start. Elmira got on the board first at the 12:56 mark of the first period with a power play goal. Neuamnn then scored two goals in a minute towards the end of the first. Low scored on the man advantage off assists from Topf and Doug Rose with 1:21 left in the period. Anthony Pino gave the Knights their first lead with 20 seconds left on the clock from Low and Rogers.

During four minutes in the middle of the second period, four more goals were scored. Elmira tied the game at two at the 7:40 mark. Topf put Neumann back on top 3-2 a minute later with assists from Morrissey and Jordan Watt. The Soaring Eagles then netted two goals to tie and then take the lead. Elmira held a 4-3 lead at the second intermission.

The back and forth continued in the third period. Davis scored his first goal 48 seconds into the third period for another knotted score. Morrissey and Zac Lazzaro tallied the assists. Two minutes later, Elmira took the one goal lead back. Davis scored his second goal at the 7:58 mark while on a five-minute power play off assists from Rogers and Topf. The Soaring Eagles netted a shorthanded goal just over a minute later.

With time winding down in regulation, the Knights pulled the goalie. Davis scored his third goal to tally a hat trick with 1:04 left on the clock. Jake Davidson and Morrissey had the assists on the goal to send the game into overtime.

It didn't take long for Davis to light the lamp for the fourth time and give the Knights a 7-6 overtime win. Jory Mullin had the game-winning assist.

Matt Gibney made 30 saves in net for Neumann. The Knights outshot the Soaring Eagles 49-36. Davis led Neumann with 11 shots.
