ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team dropped a back and forth battle against Eastern University 73-70 on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
DeShawn Lowman led four Knights in double-digits with 23 points.
Tyaire Hudson added 16 points.
Kevin Green netted 12 points and
Denzel Yard scored 10.
Eastern jumped out to an early 8-4 lead. Neumann then went on a 12-0 run to take a 16-8 lead midway through the half. The Knights held a 27-18 lead with 3:56 left in on the clock when the Eagles went on a 9-0 run to knot the game at 27. The teams would trade baskets in the final two minutes and Eastern took a slim 32-31 lead into halftime.
The second half was a grind throughout with four tied scores. With 4:51 left in regulation, the Knights held a 61-60 lead before the teams went on a two and a half minute drought. Baskets came in a flurry once the scoring drought was broken. Over the next two minutes, Eastern went on a 10-2 run for a 70-63 score with 39 seconds remaining. Neumann would not go quietly and took advantages of some turnovers to six of the next seven points for a 71-69 with 13 seconds left.
A free throw by Hudson with seven second brought the Knights to within three and a one possession game, 73-70. Hudson had another free throw attempt with three seconds left.
Muhammad Amin grabbed the offensive rebound and got the ball to Green. Green had a look for three as the buzzer sounded, but it would not go and Eastern hung on for the win.
Neumann (4-5) will be off until after Christmas when it hosts Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday, December 30 beginning at 7:00 PM.
