ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team picked up its first Colonial State Athletic Conference (CSAC) win of the season by an 87-71 win over Cairn University on Saturday afternoon.
James Butler and
DeShawn Lowman each had a double-double to lead the Knights. Butler finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Lowman had 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Tyaire Hudson scored 16 points and
Kevin Green added 15.
The first half was filled with runs by each team. The Knights built a 16-7 lead five minutes into the game. The Highlanders battled their way back to within two, 19-17, with 13:22 on the clock. Neumann would build its lead back up the seven a few times, with the latest with 6:43 on the clock and a 38-31 score. Cairn then netted the next eight points to take its first lead, 39-38.
With the Highlanders leading 43-42, the teams went on a minute and a half scoreless drought. Two free throws by Green put the Knights back up, 44-43, with 57 seconds left in the half. The teams would go into the locker rooms without another basket being scored.
The first part of the second half remained a battle and the teams were tied at 55 with 15:09 left in regulation. The Knights began to build their lead and with eight minutes left held a 72-62 advantage.
The Knights kept up the pressure throughout the rest of the second half to come away with the 87-71 win, capped by two free throws by Butler.
Neumann (4-4, 1-2 CSAC) will host Eastern next Saturday in non-conference action beginning at 3:00 PM.
