Box Score ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team defeated Gwynedd Mercy University, 82-68, in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action Monday night.
Four Knights scored in double-digits. James Butler led the Knights with 24 points while adding three blocks. Denzel Yard contributed 16 points and was one assist away from a double-double with nine. Andrew Moye scored 14 and DeShawn Lowman added 12.
The first half would be a back and forth contest. Gwynedd Mercy came out with 5-0 run in the first 1:04, but Neumann scored the next five points. The Griffins would build their lead to seven, 14-7, at the 14:12 mark. The Knights again answered for a 14-12 game with 12:25 left in the first.
Gwynedd Mercy went on the next run and took its largest margin of the half at 12, 29-17, with 6:44 left in the first half. Neumann would chip into the lead over the rest of the half and would get to within one, 37-36, heading into halftime. .
Butler put the Knights in the lead with the first basket of the second half. Midway through the second, Neumann built its lead to 12, 56-44. Gwynedd Mercy would get as close as five, 56-51, but Neumann took back over and took the game, 82-68.
Neumann (15-9, 12-5 CSAC) hosts Immaculata University in CSAC action on Wednesday evening in the regular season finale. Tip-off is at 7:00 PM.
