FLEMINGTON, N.J. – The Neumann University baseball team opened Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action with a 13-12 win against Centenary College on Friday afternoon.
Kye Williams and AJ Koscelansky each had three RBI in the game. Koscelansky also had three hits. Kristian DeLuzio started the game and picked up the win and is now 3-0 on the season. He went 5.0 innings and allowed five runs on four hits.
Zach Youngberg, Adam Holowienka, Matt Anderson, and Will Taylor went the next 2.2 innings. Kevin Corris pitched the final 1.1 innings, struck out two and got his first save.
Centenary jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after two innings. Neumann started to chip its way back into the game by capitalizing on some Cyclone errors. The Knights scored three runs in the top of the third, two coming off a homerun by Williams.
In a big fourth inning, the Knights plated seven runs, five of which were unearned. Koscelansky had two doubles in the inning, the second knocking in two runs.
Buddy Elgin hit a two-run homerun in the sixth inning for a 12-5 lead. The Cyclones added two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Jarad Carney hit a solo shot in the seventh for the Knights 13th run of the game. Centenary plated three runs in the seventh and two in the eighth to get within one, 13-12.
In the bottom of the ninth, Centenary got the tying run on base, but it was nullified on a double play. Corris struck out the last batter of the game for the 13-12 win.
Neumann (5-1, 1-0 CSAC) will head to crosstown rival Widener on Tuesday for non-conference action beginning at 3:30 PM.
