Baseball Takes Two Exciting Games from Mighty Macs

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University baseball team took a pair of Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) games against Immaculata University on Wednesday afternoon. Game scores were 12-5 and 7-6.

In game one, the Knights picked up a 12-5 victory. Matt Sheneman led the Knights with three hits and three runs. Kye Williams hit his first homerun of the season and drove in three runs. Patrick Graham started the game and went 3.2 innings, giving up two runs on two hits. Jerome Cevetello came in relief and struck out the last batter in the fourth inning. Chris Rupprecht pitched the final three innings and picked up his second win of the season. He gave up three runs on four hits.

Immaculata got on the board first in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly. The Knights answered back in the bottom half of the inning by putting up four runs. Sheneman took a two out walk. Williams doubled to drive in the first run. AJ Koscelansky singled in Williams to take the lead. Eric Bergman and Jesus Lantigua would each hit a double to bring in the other two runs.

Neumann would score three runs in the second, one run in the second, two runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Immaculata would score a run in the fourth and three runs in the third to bring the score to 10-5 before the Knights scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning to seal the deal.

In game two, Neumann scored four runs in the bottom of the seven to secure a come from behind win. Jared Carney, Nick Panissidi and Sheneman drove in two runs each for the Knights. Bobby Sefick started the game and went 3 innings, giving up five runs, one earned, on five hits while striking out three. Zach Youngberg came in relief and gave up one unearned run in 2.2 innings of work. Cevetello struck out the lone batter he faced in the top half of the sixth. Adam Holowienka struck out the first batter of the seventh inning. Tyler Thomas would record the next two outs to secure the victory.

Carney hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the first to give Neumann a 1-0 lead. Immaculata would answer with a grand slam in the top of the third to give the Mighty Macs a 4-1 lead. Panissidi hit a solo shot in the fifth inning for the Knights' third run. The Mighty Macs would hold a lead 6-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh.

Lantigua and Cody MacNair hit back to back singles with one out in the bottom of the inning. Panissidi hit a double to bring the score within two. Buddy Elgin drew a walk to load the bases. Carney would drive in the fifth run on a fielding error. Sheneman came through with a single through the right side to give the Knights a walk off victory.

Neumann (8-2, 3-1 CSAC) hits the road to face Marywood University in a CSAC doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. Action gets underway at 1:00 PM.
