ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University baseball team defeated Marywood University in walk-off fashion in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action by a score of 9-8.
Eric Bergman led the way for Neumann with three hits, two runs, and an RBI. Jesus Lantigua had three hits and two runs as well. AJ Koscelansky had a double and a run.
Tyler Thomas started the game, which actually began last Tuesday, but was halted in the top of the fifth due to the weather. He went 3.1 innings and allowed six runs on six hits and struck out five.
Chris Rupprecht went the next 2.2 innings, over the two dates for the game. He allowed two unearned runs on two hits and struck out two.
Will Taylor (2-0) picked up the win in relief for the Knights pitching 3.0 innings, allowing just one hit and no runs.
The scoring started in the second inning when Buddy Elgin reached second on an error, allowing Bergman and Lantigua to score. The Knights tacked on another run in the third inning off of Bergman's RBI single scoring Kye Williams.
Marywood would put six runs on the board in the top of the fourth inning. Neumann added one run for a 6-4 score before the game was halted heading into the fifth inning.
Play resumed with the start of the fifth inning this afternoon. The Knights were quick to get a run on the board with a sacrifice fly by Daniel Nicolaisen to score Koscelansky.
Marywood tacked on two runs in the top of the sixth. Neumann scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh for an 8-7 Pacers lead, which Marywood would hold heading into the bottom of the ninth.
Lantigua opened the bottom of the ninth with a single. Shakore Bragg-Taylor pinch ran for Lantigua and would score on a sacrifice fly by Elgin to tie the game. The Knights would load the bases and Williams drew a walk to drive in the game-winning run.
Neumann (11-5, 6-3 CSAC) will host Rowan University on Tuesday in non-conference action. First pitch is set for 4:00 PM.
