PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team ended in a 5-5 tie in 11 innings on Sunday afternoon at Arcadia University. The non-conference game was called due to darkness.
The Knights pounded out 15 hits on the afternoon. Daniel Nicolaisen led the way with four hits and two runs scored. Buddy Elgin had three knocks and Nick Panissidi added two.
Will Taylor started the game and went 4.2 innings. He allowed three runs, two earned, on two hits and struck out three. Zach Youngberg went 3.1 innings and allowed two runs on two hits. Jerome Cevetello pitched 2.0 innings and allowed one hit while striking out three. Lorenzo Williams and Adam Holowienka pitched the bottom of the 11th innings.
Acracdia opened the scoring with an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning. Neumann tied the game at one in the third inning as Joey Pedorenko knocked in Nicolaisen. The Knights then added two runs in the top of the fourth. Elgin opened the inning with a single, followed by an RBI double by Matt Sheneman. Sheneman came around to score on a single by Panissidi.
The teams then traded runs in the fifth inning and Neumann held a 4-3 lead after five. Arcadia tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. The teams against traded runs in the eighth to remain tied, this time at five. Both teams threatened in the extra innings, but no one would score. The game was called after 11 innings due to darkness.
Neumann (12-8-1) will travel to Moravian on Tuesday for a non-conference game against Moravian. First pitch is slated for 4:00 PM.
