Baseball Hits its Way to Two Wins at Marywood

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team came away with the sweep against Marywood University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. The scores were 2-1 and 14-0.

In game one, the Knights picked up a close victory, 2-1. Jarad Carney led the Knights with three hits. Will Taylor started for the Knights and went the first 4.0 innings. He gave up one unearned run on two hits while striking out six. Kristian DeLuzio came in relief to pick up his four win of the year and pitched 2.2 scoreless innings. He gave up only one hit and struck out two. Kevin Corris got the last out in the seventh to pick up his third save of the season.

Marywood got on the board first on a RBI groundout in the bottom of the second. Neumann would get on the board in the top of the fifth as Buddy Elgin hit a solo homerun. Carney hit a single to left field and advanced on Matt Sheneman's single. Kye Williams doubled to bring in Carney to give the Knights the 2-1 lead.

In game two, Neumann exploded for 17 hits and 14 runs in the shutout win.  AJ Koscelansky led the Knights with four hits. Sheneman drove in three runs for Neumann and was one of five Knights to drive in multiple runs. Matt Anderson threw a complete game shutout to pick up his first victory of the season. He gave up three hits while striking out three.

Neumann scored the first run in the top of the third. Cody MacNair led off the inning with a single. Elgin drove him in with a triple to right center field. Neumann would score five runs in the sixth, capped by a two-run single by Sheneman. With two outs in the seventh, eighth straight Knights reached base as Neumann plated eight runs.

As the Knights are making their marks on the field, they are also starting to make noise around baseball. In the latest D3baseball.com Top 25 poll, Neumann is beginning to receive votes. With the current four-game winning streak, the Knights will be hard not to notice.

Neumann (10-2, 5-1 CSAC) will return home and face Centenary College in a CSAC doubleheader on Monday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 1:00 PM.
