BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team came away with a close 9-8 win against Moravian College in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.
AJ Koscelansky drove in three runs for the Knights on three hits. Kutter Endy started for the Knights and went the first 5.0 innings to pick up his first win of the season. He gave up five runs, two earned on seven hits and struck out two. Chris Rupprecht came in relief and pitched the next 1.1 innings, giving up three runs on three hits. Tyler Thomas came into the seventh inning with one out and went the next 1.2 innings. He did not give up any runs and hits. Kevin Corris picked up his fourth save of the year after pitching a perfect ninth.
Neumann got on the board first with a run in the first inning as Koscelansky knocked in Jarad Carney. Moravian responded back with two runs in the bottom of the first. The Knights scored three runs in the second on three bases loaded walks. The Greyhounds answered with three runs in the bottom half of the second.
The Knights put together four hits and a sacrifice fly to plate three runs in the third to take a 7-5 lead.
In the sixth inning, Neumann would score two runs for insurance. Koscelansky led off the inning with a single. Jesus Lantigua reached on a throwing error by the second basemen to give the Knights runners on second and third. Daniel Nicolaisen hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Koscelansky. Two walks would load the bases for Neumann. Carney walked to drive in the ninth and the eventual game winning run for the Knights.
Moravian plated two runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to get back to within one, 9-8. The Greyhounds would put the tying run on base in the ninth, but he would be stranded and the Knights came away with the win.
Neumann (13-8-1) will return to home on Thursday to face off against Wesley College in non-conference action. First pitch is slated for 4:00 PM.
