Baseball Drops Two Against Gwynedd Mercy

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University baseball team dropped both Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contests against Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday. The scores were 7-3 and 4-3.

After the games, the Knights recognized its seniors: Kevin Case, Buddy Elgin, Jarad Carney, Matt Sheneman, Jesus Lantigua, Kyle Leone, Alex DiGenova and Lorenzo Williams.

In game one, Sheneman led the Knights with two hits and an RBI. Nick Panissidi and Daniel Nicolaisen drove in the other two runs for Neumann.

Will Taylor started the game for the Knights and 4.0 innings. He gave up six runs, four earned on four hits and struck out three. Jerome Cevetello went 0.2 innings and gave up one hit. Adam Holowienka finished the fifth and got one out in the sixth. He gave up one run on two hits. Williams struck out the only batter he faced. Kevin Giffin finished the sixth and pitched the seventh inning.

Gwynedd Mercy scored two runs in the top of the first to take an early 2-0 lead. Neumann got on the board in the bottom of the second. AJ Koscelansky singled to lead off the inning. He advanced to second and third base on two wild pitches. Nicolaisen hit a sacrifice fly with one out to drive him in.

Gwynedd Mercy took a 4-1 lead in the top of third. Neumann scored one run in the fourth and the fifth to bring the game to 6-3.

In game two, Case had two hits to lead Neumann. Kristian DeLuzio started for Neumann and went 6.2 innings. He gave up four runs on 11 hits and struck out six. Kevin Corris relieved him and finished the inning.

Neumann scored the first run of the game in bottom of the first inning. Two walks a fielder's choice led to an RBI single by Eric Bergman. The Knights would add two unearned runs in the second. With the bases loaded, Sheneman reached on an error and two runs came across the plate.

Neumann held the lead until Gwynedd Mercy scored one run in the sixth and three runs in the seventh to defeat the Knights.

Neumann (15-10-1, 8-7 CSAC) will face Salisbury University on Monday in non-conference action. First pitch is slated for 4:00 PM.
