ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team finished the season 21-1 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action and will be the No. 1 seed heading into the playoffs this weekend. The Knights will host the CSAC Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
Neumann is also ranked No. 9 in the first NCAA Regional Ranking that was released on April 30.
Neumann and Cabrini College (No. 2 seed) received a bye in the first round. The two first round games saw the No. 6 seed Gwynedd Mercy University defeat No. 3 seeded Centenary College 14-8 and No. 4 seed Immaculata University defeat No. 5 seed Marywood University 5-4.
Seven Knights received postseason honors. Allie White was named CSAC Player of the Year and Haley Broomell was named CSAC Pitcher of the Year. White, Broomell, Danielle Grayson and Lauren Wilkie were all named first team All-Conference.
White played in all 33 games this season. She hit for a .443 batting average with 51 hits in 115 at-bats. She led the team with 47 runs and 19 walks. She was a perfect 9 for 9 on the base path. She was tied for first on the team with four homeruns, first on the team with four triples, hit 11 doubles and drove in 30.
Broomell pitched in 16 games and had a 12-2 record. She had a 1.21 ERA in 81.0 innings pitched. She was first on the team with 10 complete games and six shutouts. She pitched a no-hitter and a perfect game this season. Becky Guinto had a .436 batting average with team leading 15 doubles, one homerun and was second on the team with 30 RBI. She was also received Honorable Mention honors. Danielle Grayson was tied for first on the team with four homeruns, drove in a team high 31 runs and seven doubles. At third base, she had a fielding percentage of .994.
The Knights went 7-1 against the teams coming to campus this weekend. Neumann has qualified for the post season in the past 11 seasons and have won five conference Championships. The Knights will look to take number six on Saturday.
Four games will be played on Friday, beginning with Cabrini and Gwynedd Mercy at 10:00 AM. Neumann and Immaculata's first pitch is slated at 12:00 PM. The Championship game will be at 12:00 PM on Saturday.
