ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University baseball team dropped a pair of games to Centenary College on Monday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. Game scores were 1-0 and 6-5.
In game one, the lone run came in the eighth inning after the teams played to a scoreless tie through the first seven innings. Kristian DeLuzio pitched a complete game. He allowed ones run on six hits and struck out three.
The Cyclones scored their run in the top of the eighth on a double. The Knights did not go quietly in the home half of the eighth. The first two batters struck out. Buddy Elgin then reached base on a shot to left field. He moved to third on two wild pitches. Jarad Carney and Matt Sheneman both walked to load the bases for Kye Williams. Centenary's catcher was able to hold onto a tipped-ball to complete the strikeout and the Cyclones held on for the win.
In game two, the Cyclones put three runs on the board in the first and third innings for an early 6-0 lead. The Knights got on the board in the bottom of the third as Sheneman knocked in Elgin. Neumann added a second run in the fourth inning after Eric Bergman reached on an error and scored on a single by Jesus Lantigua.
Neumann took advantage of the bases loaded in the fifth inning to plate two runs on a walk and a hit-by-pitch. The Knights trailed by two, 6-4, leading into the home half of the seventh.
The first two batters walked to start the seventh. AJ Koscelansky sacrificed the runners to second and third and one out. Bergman then singled to score Sheneman. The next batter fouled out and the game ended on a strikeout and the tying run on third.
Bobby Sefick started the game and gave up six runs in 2.1 innings on five hits. Chris Rupprecht and Tyler Thomas pitched the final 4.2 innings keeping the Cyclones off the board.
Neumann (10-4, 5-3 CSAC) will host Marywood tomorrow afternoon in a CSAC single game. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
