Box Score ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team defeated Cairn University Friday afternoon 11-10 to open up its last Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) series.
Buddy Elgin had three hits, three runs, and two RBI. Elgin's last run won the game for Neumann in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Cody MacNair had three hits, including a double, while recording four RBI.
Matt Sheneman knocked in three runs for the Knights.
Kristian DeLuzio started the game for Neumann. He allowed five runs, three earned, on 10 hits in 5.2 innings and struck out five.
Zach Youngberg went scoreless 1.1 innings.
Will Taylor finished the top of the ninth and picked up the win, improving to 3-1.
Neumann put three runs on the board in the first inning to start the game. Elgin knocked in
Nick Panissidi and
Jarad Carney and came around to score on a Sheneman single. MacNair scored
Kye Williams on a sacrifice fly in the second inning making the score 4-0 early on.
Cairn scored five runs in the third inning to take a 5-4 lead. Neumann answered with two of its own in the home half to retake the lead. The Knights then tacked on two in the fifth inning, and one in the sixth for a 9-5 advantage.
The Highlanders were able to plate three runs in the top of the eighth on three hits and an error for a 9-8 game.
MacNair singled to score
Eric Bergman for a 10-8 game heading into the ninth inning.
Cairn scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game and force Neumann to come to bat again.
Elgin singled with one out, stole second and moved to third on a fly out. The Highlanders then walked
AJ Koscelansky and Bergman to load the bases. Elgin scored on a wild pitch to get the win for Neumann.
Neumann (16-12-1, 9-7 CSAC) will complete the last two games of the series away at Cairn Sunday starting at 1:00 PM.
