Baseball Drops Opening Game of CSAC Tournament

LA PLUME, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team fell to Keystone College 10-1 in the first round of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) playoffs on Thursday afternoon.

Jarad Carney led the Knights with a homerun for the lone run for the Knights. Buddy Elgin, Matt Sheneman and Jesus Lantigua hit had a hit for Neumann.

Kristian DeLuzio started the game and went 1.0 inning. He gave up six runs on five hits. Chris Rupprecht came in relief and went 3.0 innings. He gave up two runs on eight hits and struck out one. Adam Holowienka pitched the fifth inning and gave up two unearned runs on two hits. Patrick Graham, Jalen Burks and Kevin Giffin each pitched the final three innings.

The Knights were battling from behind from the very beginning. Keystone jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first inning. Neumann scored its only run in the top of the fifth on Carney's one out homerun.

No. 1 seed Marywood University and No. 4 seed Immaculata University were the other first round game. Immaculata came away with a 4-3 victory. Immaculata will face No. 2 seed Keystone tomorrow.

Neumann (18-14-1) will face Marywood in an elimination game on Friday. The game will be held at Keystone and is slated to begin at 10:30 AM. The winner will move on to face the loser of the Immaculata and Keystone game at 3 PM on Friday on Marywood's campus. The loser will be eliminated from the tournament.
