SCRANTON, Pa. - The Neumann University baseball team defeated Immaculata University 22-9 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) playoff action. With the win, the Knights will face Keystone College in the Championship game on Saturday.
Nine Knights recorded double digits in hits. Three Knights scored four times. Cody MacNair had four hits and drove in five runs. Buddy Elgin had three hits including a homerun and drove three runs.
Will Taylor started the game for Neumann and went 2.2 innings. He gave up five runs, two earned, on five hits and struck out two. Zach Youngberg went the next 1.2 innings. He gave up three runs, one earned, on three hits and picked up the win. Kristian DeLuzio pitched the final 4.2 innings. He gave up one run on seven hits and struck out six.
eumann's bats came out of the gate swinging and they would not look back. The first six Knights all reached by a hit and came around to score. Matt Sheneman doubled in two runs in the inning.
The Knights would add four more in the second that included a homerun by Sheneman and a two-run triple by MacNair.
The Mighty Macs plated four runs in the top of the third The Knights answered with one for an 11-5 game after three innings.
The Knights put the game out of reach with three more runs in the fifth and six in the sixth. MacNair had a two-run single in the fifth.Elgin hit a solo homerun in the sixth as Neumann strung together key hits.
Neumann (20-14-11) will face off against Keystone in the championship game on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 12:00 PM. The Knights will look to win two games against the Giants on Saturday to bring home their first CSAC Title.
