SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team fell 20-10 to Keystone College in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship game on Saturday afternoon.
Five Knights had a two-hit game for the Knights. Eric Bergman and Cody MacNair each drove in two runs. Buddy Elgin and Kye Williams hit a homerun for Neumann.
Kevin Corris started for the Knights and went the first 4.2 innings. He gave up nine runs, five earned, on nine hits and struck out two. Adam Holowienka gave up a hit to the only batter he faced. Lorenzo Williams pitched 1.2 innings in relief. He gave up six runs, five earned, on five hits. Jerome Cevetello finished the seventh inning and pitched 0.2 innings. He gave up two runs, one earned, on two hits. Chris Rupprecht pitched the eighth inning and gave up three runs on three hits.
Neumann jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Knights started the game with three straight singles. Matt Sheneman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the first run for the Knights. With one out, Bergman drove in two runs with a single to give the Knights a 3-0 lead. MacNair doubled in two runs and Nick Panissidi singled to drive in the final run of the inning for Neumann.
Keystone began to chip back into the game and plated a run in the first and four in the second for a 6-5 game after two innings. The Giants tied the game at six in the fourth inning.
The Knights took back the lead with a run in the fifth inning. Bergman opened the inning with a double and came around to score on a single by Kevin Case. The Giants answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take their first lead of the game and never looked back.
Keystone plated six runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
The Knights would hit two solo shots, Elgin hit a homerun in the eighth and Williams hit his homerun in the ninth, but it was not enough.
Neumann finishes the season 20-15-1 overall and as the CSAC Runners-Up!
