ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University field hockey team hung on for a 3-2 win against Swarthmore College in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.
Becky Guinto tallied twice and added an assist to lead the Knights.
Megan Shumate also found the back of the net and
Alexa McIntyre added a helper.
Becca Wallace made four saves in net en route to the win.
Shumate opened the scoring in the 31
st minute, tipping a shot from Guinto. The Garnet answered as time was winding down in the first half. Off a penalty corner, Swarthmore tied the game at one with 14 seconds left in the first half. The teams went into the break knotted at one.
Guinto scored her first goal of the game in the 52
nd minute.
Shae Risley took a penalty corner and got the ball to McIntyre, who was able to pass the ball to Guinto who put the Knights up 2-1. The junior gave Neumann an insurance goal in the 59
th minute as she shot a laser from just inside the circle.
With five second left in regulation, Swarthmore was awarded a penalty stroke and converted for a 3-2 game. However, with just five seconds left on the clock, Neumann was hold on for the win.
Neumann (2-3) will head to Wilson on Friday evening for non-conference action starting at 5:00 PM.
