RADNOR, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team hung on to defeat Cabrini College 92-80 on Wednesday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
James Butler led five Knights in double-digits with 21 points.
Darian Barnes netted 17 points and blocked four shots.
DeShawn Lowman had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Denzel Yard scored 14 points and
Tyaire Hudson added 12.
Kevin Green put the Knights on the board first as they went on to score the first eight points of the game. The Cavaliers scored the next eight points for an even game five minutes into the action. With the teams knotted at 14, Neumann went on a 13-3 run to take a 27-17 advantage with 8:59 left in the first half. Lowman hit a buzzer beater from close to midcourt and the Knights took a 47-29 lead into halftime.
The Knights built their lead up to as many as 22, 67-45, with 11:32 left in the second half before the Cavaliers started to chip their way back into the lead. With 6:24 on the clock, Cabrini was able to cut Neumann's lead to eight, 72-64. The Knights answered by scoring the next five points. The Cavaliers then scored five of their own.
With 2:25 left in regulation, Cabrini got to within five, 80-75. Neither team would be able to find the basket until Butler went 2-for-2 from the line with 1:16 remaining. The Knights outscored the Cavaliers 10-5 over the final minute to hang on and come away with the 92-80 win.
Neumann (10-6, 6-3 CSAC) will host Keystone on Saturday in conference action beginning at 3:00 PM.
