MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team won the 2016 Middlebury Holiday Classic by a 2-1 score over host Middlebury College on Sunday afternoon.
Tyler LeFebvre was named the tournament Most Valuable Player. He allowed two goals in two games while making 80 saves.
Jake Davidson and
Jon Low were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Mike Davis led the Knights with five shots.
Shayne Morrissey and
Jordan Watt each had four as the team finished with 29. LeFebvre made 47 saves for his second win of the season. Both teams went 0-for-2 on the man advantage.
In the 2-1 win on Sunday, all of the scoring came in the second period. Low opened the scoring 3:12 into the second off assists from
Brandon Gagne and
Liam Board. Just over four minutes later,
Zac Lazzaro put Neumann up 2-0.
Anthony Pino and
Collin O'Neil tallied the assists.
Just as Neumann killed off a penalty, Middlebury cut the lead in half at the 15:18 mark of the second.
The Panthers pulled their goalie for the final 30 seconds of regulation, but could not net the game-tying goal.
Neumann (8-4) will had to Fredonia next weekend for a pair of non-conference games on Friday and Saturday.
