FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team battled to a 5-4 win at Fredonia on Friday evening in non-conference action.
Mike Davis had a goal and an assist.
Shayne Morrissey handed out two assists.
Tyler LeFebvre started the game and made 11 saves, but allowed three goals.
Mitch Wiebe made 32 saves in net and picked up the win.
Fredonia got off to a fast start, scoring three goals in the first 8:24 of the game, including a shorthanded goal.
The Knights took advantage of their only power play as
Steve Low put Neumann on the board at the 9:03 mark of the first. Morrissey and Davis picked up the assists. The Blue Devils took the 3-1 lead into the first intermission.
The Knights scored two quick goals, beginning with 4:03 left on the clock.
Jon Low found the back of the net off assists from
Liam Board and
Brandon Gagne. Davis then scored 23 seconds later to tie the game at three. Morrissey and
Jory Mullin had the assists. The teams headed into the final 20 minutes knotted at three.
Midway through the third period, Neumann tallied another pair of quick goals.
Ryan Luiten put the Knights up 4-3 with assists from
Shane Topf and
Nick Perruccio. Just over a minute later,
Zac Lazzaro scored a shorthanded goal, from
Anthony Pino, for a 5-3 lead.
With the goalie pulled, Fredonia was able to get to within one with 1:29 left in regulation. However, that was as close as the Blue Devils would get and the Knights hung on for the 5-4 win.
Neumann (9-4) and Fredonia (5-6-2) will meet again tomorrow afternoon beginning at 3:00 PM.
