SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team defeated Marywood University 85-62 on Tuesday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
James Butler led five Knights in double-digits with 26 points.
DeShawn Lowman added 18 points and went 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
Denzel Yard added 13 points.
Tyaire Hudson and
Tony Parker each had 10 points.
Darian Barnes grabbed 10 rebounds and five blocks. As a team, Neumann shot 50% from the field and 84.6% from the free throw line.
The teams opened the game battling back and forth and were tied at 12 with 12:51 left in the first half. A three-pointer by Lowman started an 11-2 run by the Knights for a 23-14 lead. The Pacers went on their own run to get back to within three, 30-27, with 4:44 on the clock. Marywood hit a three-pointer with under a minute left in the first half. Neumann took a 40-36 lead into halftime.
Yard opened the second half with a shot from downtown and the Knights went on to score the first 11 points of the half. The Pacers got back to within eight, 61-53, but the Knights scored the next five points to take back the double-figure lead, 66-53, with 6:56 on the clock. Neumann would gradually add to its lead during the final minutes to come away with the 85-62 win.
Neumann (6-5, 2-2 CSAC) will host Rosemont on Thursday evening in CSAC action beginning at 7:00 PM.
