Knights Split Pait of Matches at Roadrunner Invitational

MAHWAH, N.J. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Roadrunner Invitational at Ramapo College on Saturday. The Knights fell to Alfred State 3-1 and then defeated St. Joseph's (LI) 3-1.
 
In the first match against Alfred State, the teams split the first two sets before the Pioneers took sets three and four for the 3-1 win. Hayley Glah had 12 kills for the Knights Melanie Malseed tallied 10 kills and just one error for a hitting percentage of .346. Rachel Cray handed out 34 assists and notched five service aces. Nikki Collevechio and Ali Frey each had 10 digs.
 
In the first set, the teams went back and forth and were knotted at 20. The Pioneers then scored four consecutive points for s 24-20 lead. A kill by Shayne Sullivan and an attack error by Alfred State made the score 24-22. The Pioneers then sealed the first set with a kill.
 
In set two and Alfred State leading 13-9, two kills by Sullivan and a few attack errors by the Pioneers brought the teams back even 13-13. Cray tallied some well-timed service aces to give the Knights the lead. Kills by Glah and Jessica win got Neumann to set point, 24-20. An attach error by the Pioneers tied the match up at one.
 
Alfred State took set three 25-16. The Knights held a 21-19 lead in set four, but the Pioneers the final six points for the 25-21 win.
 
In the win over St. Joseph's (LI), each set was a battle. Rachael Hoffman tallied 18 kills and a .317 hitting percentage. Glah had 12 kills and Malseed and Sullivan each added 10. Cray dished out 51 assists. Collevechio had 16 digs and five service aces Glah also had 16 digs. Cray had 11 and Carlee Herrin added 11 digs.
 
The Golden Eagles won the first set 25-19.  The Knights came back to win set two 25-22 on a kill by Glah. It took a little extra time for the set three win. Up 26-25, Hoffman tallied a service aces for the 27-25 win.
 
The Knights came away with the match with in a back-and-forth fourth set, edging the Golden Eagles 25-22.
 
Neumann (7-11) gets back into conference action on Thursday when it travels to Rosemont beginning at 7:00 PM.
