SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team took a pair of Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) matches on Wednesday evening. The Knights defeated host Marywood 3-1 and the Clarks Summit 3-0.
The Pacers opened the evening by taking the first set 25-23. The Knights came back to take sets two and three 25-21 and set three 25-17 to win 3-1.
Hayley Glah tallied 14 kills to lead the Knights.
Rachael Hoffmann had 11 and
Melanie Malseed added 10.
Rachel Cray handed out 37 assists and five service aces. Glad also led the Knights with 16 digs.
Ali Frey had 11 digs.
Nikki Collevechio and
Carlee Herrin each added 10 digs.
Neumann held a 14-8 lead in the first set before Marywood started to make a comeback to score the next six point and knot the game at 14. The score went back and forth. The Knights took a 23-22 lead but the Pacers scored the next three points for a 25-23 first set win.
In the second set, the teams again went back and forth and were tied at 20. A service ace by Hoffman sealed the win and tie the match at one. The third set was much like the second and a kill by Glah gave Neumann a two set to one set lead.
The Knights jumped out to a 6-3 lead to start the fourth set and would keep the Pacers a couple points away during the set. Neumann scored the final five points of the match for the 25-17 win and the 3-1 match win.
Against Clarks Summit, Neumann took the match with a sweep, 3-0. Malseed tallied 11 kills in a total team effort. Cray dished out 27 assists. Glah added 13 digs.
A
Megan McGarrigle kill sealed the first set win, 25-18. Neumann opened the second set with five straight points and cruised to the 25-8 win on a kill by Malseed.
In set three, the Knights took a 7-5 advantage and scored the next 13 points for a 20-5 lead. Another kill from Malseed sealed the 25-8 set win and 3-0 match win.
Neumann (12-13, 5-1 CSAC) will head to Widener on Saturday for a non-conference match beginning at 11:00 AM.
