ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team took a pair of Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) matches on Tuesday evening, both 3-0, over Cairn University and Gwynedd Mercy University.
To open the evening, the Knights defeated the Highlanders in straight sets, 25-11, 25-13, 25-11.
Melanie Malseed had 12 kills and a hitting percentage of .667.
Rachael Hoffmann and
Hayley Glah each added nine kills and a hitting percentage of .583 and .421, respectively.
Rachel Cray handed out 34 assists.
Nikki Collevechio tallied five of the teams 12 service aces. Collevechio, Cray and
Megan McGarrigle each notched eight digs.
In the first set, the Knights took a 13-7 advantage and increased their lead to 19-7 while
Carlee Herrin was serving. In set number two, Neumann increased its lead while Collevechio was serving. A service ace by Cray sealed the win.
In the final set, Neumann took a 6-4 lead and took a 10-point advantage while McGarrigle was serving.
Against the Griffins, the team spread out the kills with seven players getting at least two. Cray dished out 24 assists and nine digs.
The first set was a close one with both teams holding a lead. The Knights were up 23-22 when a kill by Malseed gave them a 24-22 lead. Each team would then commit an attack error and Neumann held on for the 25-23 first set win.
In the second set, Neumann jumped out to an early 10-2 lead and cruised to the 25-12 win. In set three, the Knights were up 14-12, and moved to a 20-12 lead while
Ali Frey was serving. A service ace by Herrin sealed the win and the sweep.
Neumann (15-13, 7-1 CSAC) will travel to Centenary on Thursday evening for more CSAC action beginning at 7:00 PM.
