Men's Ice Hockey Cruises to Win in Season Opener

NASHUA, N.H. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team opened their season Friday night with a 7-2 win over Daniel Webster College in non-conference action.
 
Jory Mullin led the way for the Knights, registering a hat trick in the win. Shayne Morrissey picked up a goal and two assists, while Nick Perruccio added a goal and an assist as well. Thomas Mansbridge and Zac Lazarro also found the back of the net for Neumann, who received two assists apiece from Sam House, Liam Board and Jake Davidson. Matt Gibney got the win in net for the Knights, stopping 21 shots on the night.
 
Neumann came out flying in the opening stanza, notching four first period goals to lead 4-0 after one. Mullin scored three of those goals, to complete his hat-trick in just under 18 minutes. Morrissey had a three point period of his own, with a goal and two assists in the opening frame. The Knights would carry a 17-7 edge in shots into the first intermission.
 
The second period would see the Knights continue to pressure the Eagles. Despite conceding a goal to make it 4-1, Neumann responded with the next two goals of the game from Mansbridge and Lazarro to head to the third period with a commanding 6-1 lead. The goal by Mansbridge was the first of his collegiate career.
 
Peruccio added an insurance goal early in the third period to help seal the win for the Knights. Daniel Webster would get a second goal late in the period, but the game would finish with Neumann cruising to a 7-2 win. Shots would finish 41-23 in favor of Neumann.
 
Neumann (1-0) is next in action tomorrow evening, as it heads to Salve Regina University for another non-conference game. Puck drop is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
