ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team came away with a hard fought 3-0 win against Immaculata University on Tuesday evening in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) first round match. Set scores were 27-25, 25-23, 25-22.
Rachael Hoffman led the charge with 17 kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
Carlee Herrin handed out 29 assists.
Nikki Collevechio anchored the defense with 26 digs.
Hayley Glah added 11 digs.
All three sets were battles from the start. Down the stretch of the first set, the Knights held a 24-22 lead. The Mighty Macs came back to tie the game at 24. The teams traded points for a 25-all game. A kill by
Molly Murtha give Neumann its 26
th point and Glah followed with a kill to take set one 27-25.
The Mighty Macs jumped out to a 12-7 lead in set two. The Knights were get to get within a point a few times. With the score 17-16, Immaculata scored five straight points for a 22-16 lead. Neumann was not going quietly and scored the next three points before the Mighty Macs scored their 23
rd point.
The Knights went on to score six straight points for the come-from-behind second set 25-23 win, sealed with a kill by
Melanie Malseed.
The third set was like the first two. The set was tied at 22 and with two kills by Hoffman, the Knights scored the three final points of the match for the 25-22 set win and 3-0 match win.
Neumann (18-16) advances to the CSAC semifinals with the win and will travel to No. 2 seeded Keystone on Thursday evening. Action gets underway at 7:00 PM.
