Men's Ice Hockey Outlasted by Hobart

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team dropped an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West matchup versus Hobart College on Saturday night by a score of 8-5.

Liam Board, Ryan Luiten and Nick Perruccio each registered a goal and an assist for Neumann, while Johannes Sallila and Shayne Morrissey notched two assists apiece. Goalies Matt Gibney and Tyler Lefebvre combined to stop 26 saves in net for the Knights in the loss.

Neumann would take the play to Hobart early on, notching the game's first two goals midway through the first period on tallies by Board and Jory Mullin to give the Knights a 2-0 lead. Hobart would respond late in the period on the power play, bringing the score to 2-1 at the first intermission.

The second period would be dominated by Hobart, who tacked on three more goals to take a 4-2 lead. In what would become a theme for the remainder of the game, the Statesmen continued to find success on the power play, as two of the team's three goals in the period came on the man-advantage.

The start of the third period began just as the second stanza ended, with Hobart punishing the Knights for two more power play goals to make the score 6-2. The Statesmen would finish the game going 5 for 8 on the man-advantage. After Hobart added an even strength goal to make it 7-2, Neumann began crawling back into the game. Goals by Peruccio, Luiten and Shane Topf brought the score back to 7-5 with just under five minutes to play, but the Knights would not get any closer. The Statesmen would tack on an empty netter to make the final score 8-5. Shots for the game would finish even with both teams registering 34 apiece.

Neumann (3-3, 1-3 ECAC West) returns to the ice on Friday, November 18th as it heads to Stevenson University for an ECAC West matchup versus the Mustangs. Puck-drop is slated for 7:00 PM.
