ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team came away with a 113-96 win over Rowan University on Tuesday evening in the season opener.
The Knights had five players reach double-digits in the win, with three tallying a double-double.
James Butler led the way on the scoreboard with 28 points while adding 10 rebounds. He hit 10-of-11 from the free throw line.
DeShawn Lowman added 27 points and 10 rebounds.
Billy Cassidy connected on four shots from downtown en route to his 16 points.
Darian Barnes scored 14 points, grabbed 14 board and blocked seven shots.
Tyaire Hudson tallied 10 points and dished out seven assists.
The first 12 minutes of the game featured six lead changes and six tie scores. With the score knotted at 30, the Knights scored the next seven points. With Neumann holding a 41-34 lead, Rowan went on a 10-2 run to take a 44-43 advantage. A layup by Butler put the Knights back ahead and they took a 55-50 lead into halftime.
Lowman opened the second half with a layup before the Profs went on an 8-1 run for a 58-all game. Over the next five minutes, the Knights started to build up a lead and with 13:24 on the clock, Neumann took its first double-digit lead, 74-64. The Knights built up a 14 points advantage, 80-66, with 12:20 on the clock. Rowan went on a 12-4 run over the next two minutes to get back within six, 84-78. That was the closest the Profs would get during the rest of regulation. The Knights hit the century mark when Butler hit a layup with 2:57 left on the clock.
Neumann (1-0) will head to Eastern on Saturday for its first road game of the season. Tip-off is slated for 3:00 PM.
