Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Lucas Leads Women's Hockey to Second Straight Win

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team scored its second victory of the weekend over SUNY Cortland with a 5-3 win over the Red Dragons.

Bek Lucas continued to carry the Neumann offense, picking up a hat trick to go along with an assist on the afternoon. Grace Klienbach chipped in with a goal and an assist while Julia Fair made 28 saves for the Knights to pick up the win in net.

After Friday night's 4-3 win, Neumann was looking to keep the momentum rolling on Saturday afternoon. Lucas made sure to do just that when she scored at the 18:23 mark of the first period to give the Knights an early 1-0 lead. It was another power play marker for Neumann, making it three power play goals in two games after starting the season struggling on the man-advantage.

Cortland would rally in the second period, taking the play to the Knights and outshooting Neumann by a total of 16-5. The Red Dragons would be rewarded with an equalizing goal midway through the period, but Neumann would regain its composure and turn things around late in the stanza. The game looked to be headed to the second intermission knotted at 1-1, but Jordan Cholish would strike with under a minute left to play in the period to put the Knights back in front.

The one goal lead would not last however, as Cortland answered back just over three minutes into the third to once again tie the score. From there, Lucas took over the game. Despite the Red Dragons on a power play looking to take their first lead, Lucas would tally short-handed to put the Knights ahead for good with just over 15 minutes left to play. The junior forward was not done yet though, as she capped off her hat-trick with an even strength goal at the 9:25 mark. Lucas' hat trick was made all the more special as each goal came in a different situation- one on the power play, one on the penalty kill, and one at even strength.

After Cortland scored to make it 4-3 with eight minutes to play, Lucas put the finishing touches on her highlight reel day by assisting Klienbach on the team's fifth goal in the final minute of play. The goal would complete her four point afternoon and send the Knights back to Aston with their second win in as many days.

Neumann (3-5, 2-4 ECAC West) will be back in action on Tuesday, November 22nd as they play host to Manhattanville College. The game is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
