SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Neumann University ice hockey team won its third consecutive game with a convincing 6-0 victory over Fitchburg State on Saturday night at the Skidmore Invitational.
Jory Mullin and
Liam Board were the heroes for the Knights, as Mullin registered a hat trick while Board notched a goal and three assists.
Shane Topf also added a pair of goals of his own and
Shayne Morrissey chipped in with three assists to round out the scoring.
Anthony Pupplo made 17 saves to pick up the shutout in goal.
Neumann would control the game from start to finish, notching goals in each period of the game. The game started slowly, but Mullin would get the scoring started late in the first period off assists from Board and Morrissey at the 17:24 mark. Neumann would add its second tally just 13 seconds later as Topf scored to make it 2-0 heading into the first intermission.
After the first stanza Neumann would completely dominate the Falcons, outshooting them by a margin of 32-5 over the final two frames. Board would factor in all three of the Knights goals in the second period. The junior forward would score a goal at the 14:00 minute mark of the period that was sandwiched between two more assists on Mullin tallies that would complete his hat trick. Topf would add his second goal of the game in the third period to finish off an excellent all-around performance for the Knights.
Neumann (6-3) is right back in action tomorrow, as it will play tournament hosts Skidmore College in the championship game of the Invitational. Puck drop is slated for 4:00 PM.
