Mullin Leads Men's Ice Hockey to Skidmore Invitational Title

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Neumann University ice hockey team won the Skidmore Invitational on Sunday evening with a dominating 8-1 win over tournament host No. 15/14 Skidmore College.

The group of Jory Mullin, Liam Board, Shayne Morrissey and Shane Topf continued their torrid scoring streak, combining for eleven points in the win. Mullin registered his second hat trick in as many games along with an assist, while Topf tallied a pair of goals. Board recorded a goal and two assists and Morrissey notched a goal and an assist as well. Anthony Pino also recorded a goal and an assist for Neumann, who received another great start in goal from Anthony Pupplo (27 saves, 1 GA).

Mullin was named the tournament MVP. Board and Pupplo joined Mullin on All-Tournament Team.

Neumann would continue right where it left off in last night's 6-0 thrashing of Fitchburg State, jumping all over Skidmore in the first period. Mullin kept up his scorching hot play notching the game's first goal midway through the period and following that up with an assist on a Morrissey goal at the 13:13 mark of the stanza as well. The Knights would keep their foot on the pedal and add a third goal just 10 seconds later, as Pino found the back of the net to make it 3-0. The period would end with Neumann leading by the same score, holding an 11-5 edge in shots.

Unsatisfied by just a three goal lead, the Knights would press for more of a cushion in the second period. Board would notch a goal at the 8:57 mark of the period to give Neumann a 4-0 lead, marking his sixth point of the tournament. The Thoroughbreds would get on the board midway through the period to make the score 4-1, but the Knights would answer back right before the end of the frame to regain the four goal advantage heading to the third. With Skidmore on a power play looking to get back to within two goals, Mullin struck again shorthanded for his fifth goal in the past two games.

The third period would see Topf take over, as he scored twice to further widen the Neumann lead to 7-1. The two goals made it four tallies in the past two games for the senior forward. The Knights were not done though, as Mullin scored late in the period to notch his second hat trick of the tournament and seal the dominating 8-1 win.

Neumann (7-3) is back on the ice next weekend as it heads to SUNY Canton for a pair of games. The first game is scheduled for Friday, December 2nd at 7:00 PM.
