Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's Ice Hockey Notches Fifth Straight Win

CANTON, N.Y. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team won its fifth straight game with a 4-1 non-conference victory over SUNY Canton on Friday night.

Jory Mullin and Nick Perruccio scored two goals apiece, while Shane Topf added a pair of assists in the win. Goalie Matt Gibney made 19 saves in net to pick up his fourth win of the season.

Despite allowing an early SUNY Canton goal to fall behind 1-0, Neumann would recover quickly and begin to take the play to the Kangaroos. Just one minute after conceding the game's first goal, Mullin continued his hot play by knotting the game up at 1-1 with his twelfth goal of the season. The senior forward now has at least a point in his last seven games. The game would head to intermission still tied, with the Knights holding a 16-9 edge in shots.

Neumann would take control of the game in the second stanza, scoring two goals just 18 seconds apart early in the period. Perruccio would tally both markers for the Knights, finding the back of the net first at the 2:07 mark of the period, and second at the 2:25 mark. Both goals came off assists from Topf, who has a streak of his own, with points in his last four games.

The third period would see the Knights widen their lead even further, as Mullin would notch his second goal of the game to increase the lead to three. The goal came shorthanded, and was Mullin's eighth goal in his last three games. Neumann would keep SUNY Canton scoreless for the remainder of the game, taking the first game of the two game series by a score of 4-1.

Neumann (8-3) is right back in action tomorrow versus the Kangaroos. Puck-drop is slated for 7:00 PM.
